A friend of mine had a problem the other day. One of the people in his life criticized what he was doing with his life. This really touched me.
So often when we are changing, learning, and growing those around us who are not like to judge. They like to attack, criticize, comment on how we will fail. Usually these people are our valued family members or friends that we have listened to for years. We like to tell ourselves that they have our best interests at heart – but the cold hard truth is….. they don’t. These people are just slinging their own mud and garbage at us. It is up to us it we keep it, carry it, or wash it off.
Even better – dodge it!
Please remember when you are changing the people around you may not understand. It is what they do with that confusion that will let you know where they really stand with you.
I went through a really bad time in my life when I made some really poor choices. My parents did not understand why I would do these things. My parents also knew that I needed support in this time. I received the support I needed and came out on the other side a better person for going through it. If they had not supported me… well, I may not be here today.
I have also went down a path that no one in my family has gone. That no one understood. Once again my parents supported my path. Some others did not. I chose to ignore them. I do not want my life to end up like theirs so why would I listen? One day maybe they will see and then I will be able to help them go down their chosen path.
So when mud slingers come your way just remember – dare to be different and DODGE IT!!
Believing in you and your decisions,
Paula
